Our Issue is that there are many refugees that hve fled in NZ but have very little confidence in their new country.
Brief
To go to the refugee centre in Mangere Bridge and play sports with the refugees. We also will be offering help with their English. We also want to introduce them to some Kiwi culture by bringing them some "Kiwiana" food such as L&P and fish and chips. We will also ask if they are in need of any donations and we will try to support them as much as we can.
Method
1. Research for all of our information
2. Ring the Refugee Center
3. Organize permission and an appropriate date to be able
4. Organize transport and sport gear.
5. Organize some donations from sports store such as Rebel sports, Stirling Sports etc.
6. Go to camp and play sports with the Refugees.
Research
1. Find the address and phone number for the Refugee Center.
2. What are the Refugees Living Habits?
3. May we take NZ food to share? (fish and chips)
4. Get permission from parents to go to refugee camp
Your child has been given the task to find a problem in the community and take some action. We have chosen the problem of the refugees and that we believe they do not have any confidence in New Zealand.
On the 7th of November from 1:25 – 5:00 The “Refugee Rangers” will be travelling to the Mangere bridge refugee centre to organise a fun day of sports and help the refugee’s with their English.
They will travel by van with PK driving

Answer
Simon
What Do the Refugees Enjoy Doing?
Playing Sport and having other fun
The refugees enjoy to play sport and other ways of having fun. Most of the refugees enjoy going to school.
Alex
How good Is the Refugee's English?
Very Poor
Most of the refugee's English is very good because where they come from, they are taught a good amount of English.
Stephen
Do you think That the refugees enjoy NZ more
than they did their original Country? Why?
No because they are in a different place that they do not know.
Most of the refugees enjoy New Zealand more then their own country but still miss their country. They feel protected and safe which is the most important part. They feel safer because there are no people that are just going to come and shoot them or take away their parents. For the first few weeks they feel like a fish out of water.
Tommy
How long do the Refugees get to stay
In the refugee Camp?
I think that the refugees get to stay in the camp for no longer than 2 weeks.
The refugees stay in the camp for 6 weeks and they go to school from 9 am until 2:30pm. During this time the camp sets up a bank account, organizes a house to stay in and find a local school for the refugees.
Henry
What food do the Refugee's Get at the camp?
I think that the refugees get bread and water or milk. They might also get canned food.
The refugees get given kiwi food like the normal things that we eat every day. Sometimes they get a special treat of lasagna or macaroni cheese.
Simon
What Does the camp do to give the refugees more confidence in New Zealand and how does the camp help with getting jobs and their own homes to live in?
I think that the refugees get a small amount of funds for them to leave the camp, and maybe they give them a government house, to live in for a while.
The refugee get classes about New Zealand and the other skills to be able to work work such as laws etc. They also get classes on basic English and writing.
Alex
Why Do the refugees flee to NZ?
Because of the political issues.
The refugees simply have no choices. Other countries such as America, Australia, Denmark take refugees in but when they have no more vacancies, they send the refugees to NZ.
Stephen
Can we help by donating Things like pens, pencils and books to the camp and help the refugees?
No because they don't want it.
Yes we can help by donating anything except rugby balls(because most of the refugees don't know how to use them). they love football and volleyball and any other sport they can play.
Tommy
Do you have Stationary and other tools to help them with their English education
Only a few things, but not too many.
The refugees get to go to an AUT campus located in the camp. The campus have classes to help them with their English. They MUST attend unless sick in which they go to a doctors room. They go at normal school hours to get used to the school routine when they leave the camp.

Jambo! Salaam Aliekeim! Ming la ba! We found out that all the refugees enjoyed playing soccer. They are all great at their soccer skills and most of them would probably beat the school soccer team any day. Everyone communicated well even though they come from different countries such as Congo and Afganistan!
This is a map of how many people and where they are have been on our site!
